The PADI Search & Recovery Instructor Specialized Course gives you the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to teach divers how to organize. How to plan and participate in a search and recovery dive?
The Search and Recovery course teaches divers how to use search patterns and use lifting equipment to find and recover objects of varying sizes and search areas.
Specialized courses for Search & Recovery Instructor include the following:
- 2 Search & Recovery dive training sessions
- Rent all diving equipment including special equipment.

To register for the PADI Search & Recovery Instructor Specialty Course, you must:
- Be a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor or be currently enrolled or have completed an IDC/OWSI course within the past 12 months.
- IDC/OWSI applicants may apply for Specialized Instructor certification only after successful completion of the IE.
- Recent diving experiences – We recommend that you Review of diving Completed if you have not dived for 12 months.
- Good health and no congenital diseases that would be an obstacle in learning to dive.
Upon successful completion of all course requirements You must provide proof of 10 recorded search & recovery Open Water dives.
The PADI Search & Recovery Instructor Specialized Course lasts 1 day.
The course consists of two parts:

- Open Water Training – 2 Search and Recovery Training

Developing search and recovery knowledge
The PADI Search & Recovery Specialized Instructor Course consists of two training dives.
There is a knowledge development section that is done before we train in Open Water diving.
As for the development of knowledge, you must perform the following actions:
- Presents knowledge development from the PADI Search & Recovery specialist manual by teaching questions left out of the review.
- Review and understand the objectives and goals of the PADI Search & Recovery Specialty Course.
- Reviews and explains the Search & Recovery course standards and procedures from the PADI Specialty Course Instructor Manual and lists all student and instructor equipment requirements.
- Demonstrate expertise in developing all knowledge
- Explains how to control all parts of the course in a way that allows the diver to meet the diving course requirements.
- Attend a marketing and promotion workshop where you will learn techniques for promoting your PADI Underwater Naturalist course to students and the diving community.
- Participate in pricing workshops
Diving Training Search & Recovery Open Water
There are 4 Search & Recovery dive training sessions to become a Search & Recovery diver.
During the Search & Recovery Instructor course you must complete all diving requirements. which must at least practice diving 4 times out of 2 total
Before diving, you must explain the Search and Recovery Specialist Diver Open Water Training Considerations.
During training dives in open water you must:
- Demonstrate mastery of all requirements for the Search & Recovery Specialized Diver course.
- Offering open water instruction from the Search & Recovery specialist diver course.
- Demonstrate mastery of all Search & Recovery course requirements.
Upon completion of all requirements You will be certified as a PADI Search & Recovery Specialty Instructor.
